I-Heath Pharmacy is Khayelitsha’s first independent medical dispensary. Thanks to Sizwe Nzima and the Western Cape department of health, people with chronic medical needs won’t have to travel far to get their prescriptive medication.

Who is Sizwe Nzima?

Nzima is a budding entrepreneur from Khayelitsha. What started out as a general supply of chronic medication for his grandparents turned into a small business where he catered for an estimated 3 000 patients.

This is when he saw that the demand needed a greater supply system. With assistance from his mentors, Johan van Niekerk, Wajdi Abrahams and Nosipho Fatsha, he was able to realise his dream of becoming one of Africa’s fewest black pharmacy owners.

““I would like to acknowledge the support of all my mentors and partners as without them he would not have been able to persevere and persist with my dream to be the first African pharmacy owner,” Nzima said at the launch of I-Health Pharmacy.

The provincial minister of health, Nomafrench Mbombo was also present at the launch of the medical dispensary.

She lauded Nzima for persevering and achieving such a great feat.

““I am so proud of you Sizwe and I would like you to continue to work hard. Well done for achieving success. You persevered and is now a true inspiration for many young people not only here in Khayelitsha, but elsewhere in the country.

“You are a role model for other young entrepreneurs facing seemingly insurmountable challenges to continue to strive for their vision especially if their primary business purpose is to serve the community, the money will come later,” Mbombo said.

Where is I-Health Pharmacy?

The vision for the pharmaceutical company, Iyeza Health, is to expand their businesses to other low-income communities.

For now, though, Nzima and his partners will provide healthcare services to the greater areas of Harare, Litha Park and Makhaza. The pharmacy is located at the Harare Business Square and will operate according to normal business hours.
